The Wigan Court of Kings Pleas was  a small debt court used mainly by people to whom money was owed. It provides much information about trade in south central Lancashire during the early seventeenth century and gives some indication of the local trading activities of inhabitants of Coppull during the period.

The original documents, together with a useful calendar, is in Wigan Records Office.

The reference below beginning with "KP" is the reference to the original document. The first name listed is that of the plaintiff in the case, and the second the defendent. The sum of money is the debt owed, and some of the references also include brief details of the nature of the debt.
