There are a range of online resources for students of the history of Lancashire. Prehistoric
Roman Ribchester is the county's best known and preserved Roman site.
Dark Ages
Medieval The Medieval Period Resource Assessment, published by National Museums of Liverpool provides an excellent starting point for those interested in the medieval period in Lancashire, and like a second piece about the medieval period research agenda, it echoes the sad lack of knowledge and past research into the history of the county.
Early Modern
Modern
Multi-period The Lancashire Sites and Monument Record contains a wide range of information about buildings and archaeological features in the county. It is not yet accessible online. The Lancashire Historic Towns Survey includes detailed online (.pdf) reports into the history and archaeology of 30 of Lancashire's towns. These are an enormously valuable resource and starting point for those interested in the urban history of the county or the history of one of the towns covered by a report.
