Organisations There are a range of organisations and centres devoted to aspects of the study of the history of Lancashire. Lancashire and Cheshire Antiquarian Society This is a long-established society which promotes the study of a broad range of historical topics in Lancashire and Cheshire. It publishes the annual Transactions of the Lancashire and Cheshire Antiquarian Society. The Historic Society of Lancashire and Cheshire This is another long-established society promoting the study of the history of the two counties. It publishes its annual Transactions. Lancashire Local History Federation This is primarily a federation of local history, genealogical and similar societies based in Lancashire, although it also has individual members. It publishes the Lancashire Local Historian. This prides itself as being the oldest history society in the county and promotes the publication of source material relevant to the study of Lancashire and Cheshire. It has published a wide range of both source material and also secondary history relating to the north west. The Record Society of Lancashire and Cheshire This is also a long established society which has published a wide range of primary source material relating to the history of the two counties. Manchester Centre for Regional History This is based at Manchester Metropolitan University and supports the research of primarily 19th and 20th century regional social and economic history. It publishes the Manchester Region History Review.
