My interest in the history of the village was whetted in the late 1970s when I read Hubert Walsh’s “A History of Coppull”. This has recently been transcribed by Rita Platt of the Lancashire Family History Society and is available online.
Geoff Bellis has spent the last quarter century collecting photographs of Coppull. In the 1980s, with his collaborator Keith Lees, he published “Coppull Memories” a collection of photographs from his extensive collection together with explanatory text. In 2002 together with Roger Roocroft he produced a video of Coppull Memories, which told the history of the village between 1830 and 2002. In 2006, again with Roger Roocroft he produced a dvd about the history of Birkacre which adjoins Coppull and was a major industrial centre linked to the village for many generations.
MD Smith published a well illustrated book “About Coppull” which covered a wide chronological range and included many new photos and old photos from the Bellis collection.
The Lancashire Parish Register Society has published the first register of Coppull Chapel dating from 1757 and the subsequent registers to 1842.
