Edward Erle of derbie lorde Stanley and Stange lorde of Man and thylee and knyghte of the honourable order of the garter. To all men to whom these present writings shall come gretinge knowe ye me the said erle for the goodde and faithful service whiche my wellbeloved servannte Alexander Rigby haith done and hereafter mynde the to continue and do to me and myne heyres to have given and granted to the said Alexander Rigbie the office of the balywycke of my mannour Lordshipp of Coppull in the county of Lancaster with th appurtenances to have exercise occupye and enioye the said office with all things thereto belonging to the said Alexander Rigbie by himself or his sufficient deputie performe henceforward during my pleasure [???] and takinge yerely at his own handes of fines rents and profits of my said manor for the executinge of the said office the some of eighteen shillings eight pence of lawful money of England at the Feast of St Marten the Bishopp in winter and pentycoste by even porcions with all other commodyties and proffytts belonginge to the said office in as [???] manner as Roberte Ugnall decessed hadde or enjoyed the same wollinge [?] and commandinge all my servants tenants and recyennts [?] within the charge of the said office to be kydinge [?] assystings obeyne and helpinge the said Alexander and his suffycyent deputie in the executynge of the said office. And this my writing shall be sufficient warrante to my receivers generall and auditors for the tyme being for the allowance of the said fee during my pleasure. And whereas Roger Ugnall decessed and the said Robert Ugnall his sonn hadde and occupied one lytell closure of land or crofte of myne inheritance in Coppull aforesaid called the myddel shotte of the yerely rent of two shillings and twoopence in the severall tymes of their being my baylyffes there, whyche affore that tyme was in the occupacion of Peres Worthington of Blaynescoghe gentleman or his ancestors therefore I the said Erle doe by these presentes demysse and grannte to the said Alexander Rigbie the same lytell closure of lande or crofte to have holde ancd occupye the same to the said Alexander and assignees duringe my said pleasure yelding and payinge therefore yerely to me the said Erle and myne heyres the rentes thereof due and accustomed at termes and dayes of payment thereof usuall. Geven at my manor of Lathome under my sygnet and sygn manuell the xxvijth daye of Octobre in the fyfthe and syxt yeres of the reignes of oure soveraigne Lorde and lady Phillipe and Mary by the grace of godde king and queen of Englande Spayne France both sytills Jerusalem and Irelande defenders of the faithe archdukes of Austriya dukes of Burgundye Myllane and Brabante Countes of Haspurge Flanders and Tyroll.
