The catalogue reference for Alexander German describes him as "of Standish", but his probate inventory describes him as "of Coppull". The value of his probate inventory was £422 9s 2d - an extraordinarily large sum for the period.

In the name of God Amen the xxiiith day of September 1613 I Alexander German of the Parish of Standish sick in body but whole [?] of mind and of good and perfect remembrance thanks be given to Almighty God do set order & make this my last testament & last will in manner & form following (written in my own hand) First I give and bequeath my soul to almighty god my maker and redeemer & my body to be buried in the Church yard of Standish whereof I have laid a stone. Secondly I do give my goods as hereafter shall be expressed. I do divide my goods into three equal parts, the first part I do reserve unto my self. The second part I do give to Ellin my wife and the third part I do give to my five children that is to say to Elizabeth German Alexander German Richard German Thomas German and Ales German equally to be divided amongst them. I do give to John Haydock one old chest great [?}. I do give to Adam Kindsley one old chest grate [?] I give to every god child that I have that are living iiijd that is to say to Alexander Chisnall Elizabeth Hollins and Elizabeth the wife of Richard Nightgall. Over and besides my legacies and funeral expences being discharged all the rest of my part of goods unbequeathed I do give and bequeath one half of my part of goods to Elizabeth my daughter and the other half of my part of my goods I do give and bequeath to Thomas German my son and Ales German my daughter equally to be divided between them. I do order constitute and make John Haydock and Adam Kindsley my lawful executors to execute this my testament and last will in manner and form as is aforesaid as my most especial trust is in them above all others and they have faithfully promised me to execute the promises as is above written. Signed sealed & delivered in the presents of these persons whose names are under written.
